Why Student Library?

The Literary and Debating Club in association with the Student Council, NITW is taking the initiative to launch Student Library, a library for the students, by the students. :)

Similar efforts in previous years were not successful due to lack of will and insufficient funds. But we are confident we can make a new start. In the recent past, the Student Council has performed well by responding to student issues with respect to facilities in the hostels. It is our hope that we can take it a notch higher by catering to the needs of students by starting reading rooms and library in all the major hostels of our campus.

Similar systems exist in IITs and some of the other NITs. It is our firm belief that for our college to be counted as one of the best in India, it should cater to the all round development of students and encourage reading among students. Even though we have a very well stocked Central Library, students aren't exposed to much besides technical literature.

An alumnus from the 1984 batch lamented that students don't read enough in college. From his own experience he said he wished he had spent more time reading about economics, business and other subjects to prepare him for life beyond college.

Student Library is a step in that direction and much more. Needless to say that any initiative of this magnitude requires the support and cooperation of everybody in college. We appeal to the students to donate and join the library.

Let's make this happen... cheers!

I'm not sure if you were around the last time a student library was started at NITW. It wasn't unsuccessful - it had 300+ books. Unfortunately, these books were lost due to negligence.

Anyways, I hope it is gaining popularity and size.
